John Legend is the sexiest man in 2019

What's Trendy

American singer-songwriter John Legend is the sexiest man in 2019, and he joked that he wasn’t sure “if he could live with that flattering title.”

The landlord is happily married to model Chrissy Tigen, with whom he has two children, and is the first African-American to receive the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award for his art work.

“When I heard the news I was very excited, but at the same time a little scared because it was … a lot of pressure,” he told People.

“John of 1995 would be very confused to take the title after Idris Elba,” he wrote on Twitter.

“Hell, John of 2019 is almost as confused, but thanks to People magazine. I’ll take the title. Now everyone will look at me to see if I’m really sexy enough for something like that. By the way, I was chosen after Idris Elba, which is not honestly and I’m not very likable, “the singer joked.

1995 John would be very perplexed to be following 2018 @IdrisElba as #SexiestManAlive. Hell, 2019 John is about as equally perplexed but thank you @People for finding me sexy. I’ll take it 🤓

British actor Idris Elba took the title of “sexiest” last year. Other actors and singers who have appeared on the cover of the magazine in recent years after being named the most sexiest are Blake Shelton, Chris Hemsworth, Adam Levin, George Clooney and Chenning Tateum.

Legend, currently one of the jury members of the popular American show “The Voice”, won 10 Grammy Awards for his 2004 debut album “Get Lifted” and for his song “Ordinary People”.

He has won the Oscar for the song “Glory” from the movie “Selma”, the Tony Award for co-producing the Broadway play “Jitney” and Emmy for producing the TV adaptation of the musical “Jesus Christ the Superstar” starring Jesus.

The Lender’s photo will feature the cover of People, which goes on sale Friday.

Last year, Legend became one of the youngest people to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony and the first African-American man to win all four. Only 14 other people have accomplished the feat, including Audrey Hepburn, Mel Brooks and Whoopi Goldberg. He is also well known for his relationship with model Chrissy Teigen. As could be expected, she had a lot to say about it on her Twitter. The social(media)ite — who now calls herself on her Twitter bio a “de-motivational speaker currently sleeping with people’s sexiest man alive” — tweeted in response to the Elba comparison.”Yeah but let’s see an @idriselba pic from 1995 (prob still very hot),” she said.Legend, who PEOPLE called on their cover a good guy who got it all, released updated lyrics this week to the 1944 song “Baby it’s Cold Outside” to include calling an Uber for the woman insisting she must go.

Teigen is well-known for her lively social media presence, particularly her willingness to confront trolls critiquing her parenting approach, her appearance and more. Her comebacks found an even broader audience in September whenPresident Trump derided the couple on Twitter after seeing Legend, one of his most vocal celebrity critics, on an MSNBC town hall special.

Trump slams ‘boring’ John Legend, ‘filthy mouthed’ Chrissy Teigen for not crediting his criminal justice reform

Teigen was widely praised for her pointedly vulgar response to the president’s tweet, in which Trump called Legend “boring” and referred to the best-selling cookbook author as his “filthy mouthed wife.” Just over a month later, the couple and their children appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair as the magazine proclaimed them “The First Family We Deserve!”

“Legend calls himself a nerd. Teigen admits she’s kind of a basket case,” writer Karen Valby noted in the accompanying article. “They adore each other.”AD

Legend reiterated the nerd label in his People interview, noting that he loves to do crossword puzzles. He recalled writing songs for girls he liked as a kid but told the magazine that it wasn’t “extremely effective” at the time. He would go on to pen “All of Me,” the soul-baring ballad he dedicated to Teigen, who later joked that she should have also been congratulated when Legend received a Grammy nomination for the song. “Without me there is no all of me,” she wrote.

Teigen is also — at least partially — responsible for the glow-up that landed Legend on People’s closely watched annual issue. “She always looks amazing,” Legend told the magazine. “And I get to stand next to her a lot and I don’t want to be a huge letdown … so I try to dress well enough to be worthy of being next to my wife.”
