Female prison guard charged after allegedly having sex with inmate.
A 25-year-old female prison worker suspended for her relationship with a former inmate has been charged over allegations she had sex with a separate prisoner at the jail where she worked.Melissa Goodwin was arrested at a home in Ingleburn, in Sydney’s south-west, this morning and taken to Campbelltown Police Station. She was charged with holder of public office misconduct and engaging in a relationship with inmate causing safety risk.
It is alleged Ms Goodwin had a sexual relationship with a 21-year-old at Silverwater jail that lasted a number of months.”The allegation is there were five sexual acts, separate incidents, at the facility in Sydney’s west,” Detective Inspector Robert Hollows, Commander of Corrective Services Investigation Unit, said today.”It’s been going on for several months – since November last year – we have confirmed that there has been correspondence between this female officer and the inmate,” he added.Ms Goodwin is also accused of taking contraband including tobacco, lighters and chewing gum into the prison.
The police investigation was sparked last week when Corrective Services notified detectives of the inappropriate relationship between Ms Goodwin and the prisoner.
The inmate had been moved to another facility after their alleged relationship was exposed. Two weeks ago, Ms Goodwin was stood down from her job for a separate reason – failing to declare association with a former inmate. This was to do with her relationship with Caleb Valeri, a former inmate, bikie associate and aspiring rapper.Valeri picked up Ms Goodwin when she was released from Campbelltown Police Station this afternoon. She was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on July 14.
